As you may or may not know, the previous Maribyrnong Council's plan to construct a new pool at Highpoint was given planning approval.Part of that Council's budget for the new pool was based on "savings" to be made from the closure of the Footscray Swim Centre and selling the land.
Our aim has always been to prevent the closure of the Footscray Pool and to improve the existing facilities.This has been made more difficult by the Maribyrnong Council's years of neglect.
We have sought new ideas from local residents and pool users, and now believe that in order for us to attract new funds and, more importantly, more supporters, the Pool needs to have a broader role within the our community.Our proposal is to make the Pool more than just a pool, and make it genuine Community Centre, something that fulfils a greater need within the local region.Without taking away from its current focus of fun & fitness, the Pool could become hub for other activities, including arts & youth groups.
The Footscray Pool still needs your support and ideas.The campaign to save it also needs funding.
